Bois de santal synthétique de la famille campholénique, au profil chaud, crémeux, doux et légèrement musqué-lacté. Peu complexe et très linéaire comparé aux naturels, il agit en formulation comme un bois de fond tenace, apportant volume, rondeur et une tenue prolongée plutôt qu’une signature identifiable en trace.

Boix Camps: It has a sweet, warm, strong, woody, santalaceous odor, which is immediately perceived on the blotter, and has a top note power about 50% greater than the essential oil of sandalwood although it doesn’t last as long.

It is a great aromatic, used in alcoholic perfumery, soaps and detergents, where it has an effect even if applied only in trace quantities.

It is interesting to see it developing in combination with allyl-ionone, isobutylquinoline, gamma-undecalactone, Miraldile acetate, and Fixolide, as well as in combination with vanillin and ethylvanillin.

Within the aromatics of similar characteristics we find Brahmanol, Sandel C and Bacdanol, where the strength and perhaps the applications will vary from one another. Nevertheless, Sandalore, Brahmanol and Bacdanol, which is perhaps the best of them all, are products of great nobility. Their use as modifiers of the classic notes of the essential oil of natural sandalwood is interesting.

Fraterworks: Sandalore® is a creamy and warm sandalwood aroma chemical with a stronger top note than natural sandalwood and a shorter life on the blotter. It does an excellent job of adding santalaceous volume to a scent and is particularly good in blends with other sandalwood materials. Excellent as a booster and extender for natural Sandalwood oil.

Sandalore is the key sandalwood in Chanel’s Égoïste (1990) by Jacques Polge (see formula below named Egotist), Guerlain’s Samsara (1989) and many other truly great fragrances from the 1980s and beyond. Whilst being quite highly restricted (1.2% of the finished product) it has a wonderful ability to add a true sandalwood volume and so fairly small amounts are impactful. And at 1.2% it can be combined with other restricted materials for synergy and expanding their impact. For example Christophe Laudamiel’s wonderful Amber Absolute for Tom Ford (2007) which blends 12% of Sandalore with 8% of Polysantol against a massive 28% dose of vanillin.

Peut être partiellement annulé par des matières très sèches ou minérales (patchoulol isolé, vétiver sec) qui tirent le profil vers le sec, ainsi que par des aldéhydes puissants qui masquent sa rondeur crémeuse.

Emergences

En association avec des muscs blancs ou de l’Iso E Super, fait émerger une facette lactée-poudrée typique des bois modernes. Avec des notes ambrées (ambroxan), renforce un effet peau chaude et velouté.

Overdose

Au-delà du seuil overdose, le caractère crémeux-sucré-musqué devient envahissant et peut saturer la composition, aplatissant les contrastes et donnant une impression cireuse ou cosmétique. Une réglementation IFRA limite par ailleurs sa concentration à environ 1,2% dans certaines catégories de produits finis, ce qui doit être vérifié indépendamment de ce seuil architectural.

Moins puissant que Bacdanol et moins lacté que Sandela selon les fournisseurs ; comparé à Javanol ou Ebanol, il est plus doux, moins radiant en tête, mais offre une excellente tenue de fond à moindre coût, ce qui en fait un bois de santal de structure plutôt que de signature.
